Computer Aided Design Teaching Rooms
University of California at Berkeley
Etcheverry Hall, 1st Floor

BlakeDrucker Architects improved 4 CAD drafting computer labs for the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at U.C. Berkeley. The existing rooms were poorly suited for computer work, with a noisy cooling system and lighting that created monitor glare at many stations.

A quieter cooling system was installed, with the noise being further reduced through the use of highly designed acoustical dampening. The result was so successful that the professors needed to ask "is the unit on?" upon final occupation.

Indirect lighting created a glare-free light that is ideal for computer work. Controls allow 3 different levels of lighting to adjust to the needs of different activities.

The project was completed on time during a tight summer construction window, allowing classes to be occupied for the Fall Semester. It was on-budget with $0 net dollar value for change orders.
